Medication Administration Training | Pennie Ohia

Medication Administration Saftey Training

Led by Pennie Ohia

Medication administration is one of the most critical responsibilities in any Adult Foster Care or direct care setting. Proper training protects residents, protects staff, and protects facilities from regulatory violations.

Pennie Ohia provides structured, compliance-focused medication administration training for Adult Foster Care providers, direct care staff, administrators, and group home personnel throughout Michigan.

This training is designed to strengthen documentation accuracy, verification procedures, and regulatory understanding so that staff can administer medications safely and confidently.

What Participants Learn

This training goes beyond basic instruction and focuses on real-world application and compliance protection.

Participants will learn:

  • How to properly read and document on a Medication Administration Record (MAR)
  • How to identify manufacturer changes in bubble packs
  • What to do when a pill appears different
  • When medication can and cannot be withheld
  • Proper communication procedures with pharmacists and supervisors
  • Documentation standards required under Michigan AFC rules
  • How to avoid common medication errors that lead to violations
  • How to protect yourself through accurate reporting and recordkeeping

The goal is not just to teach procedures — it is to build confident, regulation-aware staff.

Understanding Michigan Medication Rules

Medication administration in Michigan Adult Foster Care settings is governed by state administrative rules, including R 400.14312.

This rule requires that staff:

  • Do not adjust or modify a resident’s prescription medication
  • Follow physician or pharmacist instructions
  • Maintain written documentation of medication-related communications

In this training, participants learn how these rules are interpreted in real-world inspections and investigations, so they understand both the language of the rule and how it is applied.

Why Medication Errors Happen

Many medication violations are caused by:

  • Miscommunication between staff
  • Incomplete documentation
  • Unclear verification procedures
  • Failure to document pharmacist confirmation
  • Lack of structured training

This course addresses those gaps directly and provides clear protocols to reduce compliance risk.

A Compliance-Focused Approach

Pennie Ohia’s medication administration training emphasizes:

  • Resident safety
  • Documentation accuracy
  • Regulatory awareness
  • Professional accountability
  • Clear communication procedures

Participants leave with a better understanding of how to administer medication correctly and how to document actions in a way that protects both residents and staff.

Training Format

Medication administration training may be offered:

  • In-person
  • Individual enrollment classes

Scheduling options are available for agencies and independent providers.
